Short-Term Debt, Long-Term Impact: Treasury’s Strategy in Focus

The White House wants cheaper debt while the bond market wants clarity. This morning, we get both…

Since taking office in January, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has pursued one clear goal: lower the yield on U.S. Treasurys. He keeps emphasizing the point that cheaper yields mean lower borrowing costs for households and businesses. After all, Treasury rates anchor everything from mortgages to auto loans. The White House, he says, is committed to using every tool at its disposal to bring yields down.

At first, Bessent assumed the Federal Reserve would lend a hand by cutting interest rates. But the White House’s tariff policies stirred fresh uncertainty around growth and inflation, leaving Fed officials hesitant until recently. So, Bessent turned to other levers.

China Introduces New Exports Controls On Antimony, Tungsten And Silver

According to Trump, his big achievement a week ago when he announced the trade truce with China, was getting Beijing to agree to remove export limitations on rare earth minerals, which as most now know are so critical for US companies to make everything from cell phones, to cars, and military equipment. And yet, as discussed on a few occasions this week, it feels like the cracks in this latest trade deal are already starting to show, whether it is Beijing ordering Trump what he can’t talk about, or quietly ring-fencing its domestic data center by banning US AI chips.

And now, it appears that while China granted Trump a 1 year reprieve on rare earths, it is quietly tightening the export noose on other, just as important minerals.

According to the Global Times, China has introduced new export controls on silver, antimony, and tungsten.

    “Ah Silver!”

Disagreements Emerge Over US-China Rare Earth Deal, As US Adds Uranium, Silver To Critical Minerals List

Two days ago, when discussing China’s surprising announcement that Trump should not cross four “red lines” (including i)Taiwan, ii) democracy and human rights, iii) China’s political system, and iv) development rights) or risk a collapse of the trade truce, we said that “ever since the recent “truce” in the trade war between the US and China was signed in Korea one week ago – the latest of many such ceasefires meant to be broken – skeptics have been patiently counting down until this latest ceasefire is torn up, and tensions between the two superpowers flare up once more.”

Needless to say, China telling Trump what the US president can and can not say is one of those things that the generally “sanguine and quite calm” US president tends to not be too excited about, and which leads to occasional bursts of outrage which then restart trade wars.

Russian Official Threatens to Send Hypersonic Missile to Venezuela: ‘Americans May Be in for Some Surprises’

Russia opened the door to sending hypersonic missiles to Venezuela with a defense official warning that Americans “may be in for some surprises.”

Alexei Zhuravlyov, Russia’s parliamentary defense committee’s deputy chairman, told Russian media that he sees “no obstacles” in providing Oreshnik or Kalibr missiles to Venezuela, a “friendly country” to Russia.

“I see no obstacles to supplying a friendly country with new developments such as the Oreshnik or, let’s say, the well-proven Kalibr missiles,” Zhuravlyov told Russian website Gazeta.Ru, according to The Telegraph.

Trump Set to Strike Venezuela Military Installations ‘at Any Moment’: Miami Herald

President Donald Trump has decided to strike multiple Venezuela military installations, according to a new report from the Miami Herald.

Sources familiar with the situation told the Herald that the strikes “could come at any moment.”

An attack would mark a major escalation in an already-tense situation, with the president already approving deadly strikes on boats from Venezuela that he and other officials claim are a direct threat to the U.S. as they are allegedly carrying drugs and bringing them into the country.

“We Just Won”: Trump Gloats After Bill Gates Admits Climate Change Won’t End World

In the late 1970s, after ‘global cooling’ armageddon science fell out of fashion, a well-oiled machine comprised of billionaire-funded NGOs, the MSM, Hollywood, woke Wall Street, and a robust fact-checking / censorship cartel – started pushing a cult narrative about the planet’s imminent demise in a hellish inferno of global warming. They’ve blamed everything from cow farts and Taylor Swift’s private jet to two-stroke chainsaws, petrol-powered cars, and whatever else these climate Marxists wanted banned – and forced people into authoritarian bullshit like ‘electric stoves only’ and ’15 minute cities’ and ‘eat the bugs,’ etc.

Now, as data centers are coincidentally projected to need record amounts of electricity, Bill Gates has changed his mind about all of that.

RBI accelerates repatriation of gold held abroad

RBI now holds more than 65% of its gold reserves at home, nearly double the share from four years ago, accelerating the repatriation of the precious metal after Western nations froze Russia’s reserves following the invasion of Ukraine.

The Reserve Bank of India brought back nearly 64 tons of gold in the first six months of the financial year that began in April, it said in a half-yearly report on foreign exchange reserves Tuesday. In value terms, gold accounted for 13.92% of total reserves at the end of September, up from 11.70% at the end of March. The RBI generally keeps part of its gold overseas, held at the Bank of England and the Bank for International Settlements.

Proof That Pullbacks Occur in Every Epic Bull Market

In this newsletter, in addition to providing the usual precious metals market analysis and educational content, I place a strong emphasis on encouragement and psychological support for my subscribers. We are in this precious metals investing journey together, and in my experience, the psychological element is actually one of the biggest challenges most investors face. It may even be more difficult than the analytical or intellectual side.

When precious metals are moving higher, confidence runs high and investors don’t need much reassurance. But when the inevitable pullback comes, the mood shifts quickly, and my inbox fills with anxious messages. That’s why I write pieces like my recent article, “The Precious Metals Pullback Is No Reason to Panic,” to help put things into perspective and remind everyone to stay focused on the extremely bright long-term outlook for precious metals.

Thieves steal more than 1,000 items from Oakland museum in ‘brazen’ heist

Thieves stole more than 1,000 items belonging to a museum in Oakland, California, authorities said this week, including historic artifacts and jewelry.

Local officials are working with the FBI to investigate the burglary, which took place earlier this month at an off-site storage facility owned by the Oakland Museum of California.

The Oakland police department said in a statement on Wednesday that on 15 October, just before 3.30am, individuals broke into the facility and stole hundreds of items from the collection. The missing pieces included artifacts such as Native American baskets, ivory carvings and daguerreotypes, as well as laptops.

High school student surrounded by police and handcuffed after AI mistakes his bag of Doritos for a gun

WTF?! Even as billions are poured into AI and its use becomes increasingly widespread, we’re still seeing very worrying instances of the technology getting things wrong. A prime example happened at a high school when a student was swarmed by police after an AI thought the Doritos bag he was holding was a gun.

Taki Allen, a 16-year-old high school student at Kenwood High School in Baltimore County, Maryland, got an unwelcome surprise as he sat outside with friends after football practice while waiting to be picked up last week.

Food Lines Are Already Growing Longer All Over America

It is already happening.  There has been a lot of talk that there will be a surge in demand at America’s overwhelmed food banks once funding for the food stamp program ends in early November, but the truth is that we are already witnessing a surge in demand.  So what is going to happen if the current government shutdown persists for an extended period of time?  On one recent evening, the line at a food bank in downtown Kansas City “snaked through the parking lot, down a driveway and into the street”

On a recent Thursday evening, the line of cars waiting to pick up food at Redemptorist Social Services Center in midtown snaked through the parking lot, down a driveway and into the street.

Demand for free food is soaring across Kansas City, as job cuts increase, food inflation remains persistently high and federal food assistance is slashed by the Trump administration.

China Envisions ‘Dry Canal’ to Compete With Panama Canal

In response to the Trump administration’s new U.S. policy of reasserting control over the Panama Canal, China and Brazil are exploring the possibility of building a transcontinental railway to provide an advantageous alternative to the Panama Canal. The proposed rail system would potentially run from Brazil’s Atlantic coast, perhaps Ilhéus, Bahia, to Peru’s Pacific coast at Chancay.

The project, known as the Central Bi-Oceanic Railway Corridor (CRBC), has been in consideration since at least 2017. Other proposed projects of a similar nature and objectives have been considered since at least 2013. There are other terms applied to the transoceanic railway project, but essentially, the system would cut across the Amazon rainforest and go over—and likely tunnel through—the Andes mountain range, linking Atlantic and Pacific port facilities.

Overnight Drone Attack Hits Moscow High-Rise As Putin Warns Of ‘Overwhelming’ Response

Ukrainian drones have once again reached the Moscow area, far away from the border, at a moment the Kremlin is strongly warning against Washington allowing the transfer of US Tomahawk missiles to Kiev.

The attack on a Moscow suburb was part of a broader wave of overnight drone attacks which hit multiple regions across the country, injuring at least five people, including a child, when one drone slammed into an apartment building near Moscow.

According to Moscow region Governor Andrei Vorobyov, the drone hit a 14th-floor apartment in a high-rise building in the city of Krasnogorsk, northwest of the capital.

Global cooling startup raises $60M to test sun-reflecting technology

A once-outlandish idea for reversing global warming took a major step toward reality Friday when Israeli-U.S. startup Stardust Solutions announced the largest-ever fundraising round for any company that aims to cool the Earth by spraying particles into the atmosphere.

Its plan to limit the sun’s heat raised $60 million from a broad coalition of investors that included Silicon Valley luminaries and the Agnelli family, an Italian industrial dynasty.

The disclosure, critics said, raises questions about involvement of venture capital firms in driving forward a largely untested, thinly researched and mostly unregulated technology that could disrupt global weather patterns and trigger geopolitical conflict.
