    “So much for ‘low inflation’?”

The United Auto Workers is seeking a 46% wage increase over four years as a part of its negotiations with the Detroit Three automakers, according to a page of the union’s written demands.

The proposal would be the largest pay increase in recent memory. The proposal from the Detroit-based union that represents approximately 150,000 workers making Chevrolets, Fords, Jeeps and more calls for a 20% general wage increase upon ratification of a new contract “to offset severe impact of inflation” over the past few years, according to the write-up obtained by The Detroit News.

Fitch is now the second of the three major credit rating agencies to have taken the historic step of removing the triple-A rating from the U.S. S&P made its first-ever downgrade to the U.S. credit rating on August 5, 2011, also from AAA to AA+, and has kept it there ever since. Moody’s is now the only member of the Big Three credit rating agencies that has maintained a triple-A rating on the U.S.

“This could be super fun to watch! Facts versus fantasy?  I wonder how many times DeSantis will ask how California is doing with various topics?  Being long popcorn seems a safe bet!”

Govs. Ron DeSantis and Gavin Newsom have tentatively agreed to debate — one hosted by Fox News.

The Florida Republican and California Democrat have repeatedly sparred over policies in their respective states, each representing one side of the ideological spectrum though occupying different political perches. DeSantis, a Republican, is trailing former President Donald Trump for the Republican presidential nomination while Newsom, a Democrat, has brushed aside questions about his own presidential ambitions to become a super surrogate of sorts for President Joe Biden.

Among the likely topics of discussion is the feasibility of setting up a jointly-owned international financial institution. It would be funded by gold deposits, issue a currency, and extend loans tied to the spot value of gold. There are substantial reasons to doubt the workability of the growing consortium’s plan. But to dismiss it summarily, whether as bad economics or wrote anti-American propaganda, is to dismiss a moment five decades in the making.

    “Rest in Peace Principe!”

You may have noticed very little posting this week. My wingman and amigo passed away Tuesday suddenly (and no he was not vaxxed!). We have been riding partners for nearly 17 years. When I first got to Costa Rica back in late 2006, I was looking for a horse to trail ride and came across Principe’. He was sound and stable (most of the time as the Spanish do have a tendency at bad tempers). I loved his natural gait as he “paddled” while trotting. Each Saturday, the endurance Arabians would ride to a mountain top and back down. None of the Spanish horses could make it to the top except Principe’. He was normally number 8 or 10 out of 30 horses to the top …and ALWAYS dead least to get to the bottom because gaited horses lift and take such short steps naturally. After a couple of years, while on a Sunday bar hop with our horses, one of the best trainers in the country asked me if he could train my horse. I rode, while the trainer tapped his fetlocks and lower shoulders. Within a year, Principe’ had Paso Espanol (Spanish walk), passage, piaffe’, and could change leads on every other step at a canter. After getting him here in the states, a young woman was able to get him to change leads on each step, this is a feat that maybe only 2,500 horses on the planet can do?! Over the years, my rough math tells me we went nearly 20,000 miles together, many of those miles kept me sane in an increasingly insane world. He spoke horse, I spoke English, so we decided Spanish, and only Spanish would be our language choice. Once here in the States, I worked on a ground routine at liberty (no halter) with him that eventually stretched out to more than 3 minutes. Principe’ was an absolute carrot slut and would do anything for a carrot. He was a very quick learner as long as the carrot supply held out! Something many do not understand, is that your animal, any animal can teach you things …if you listen? There were several additions to his repertoire that he taught me and we continued with. For his last 6 years, never did he wear a saddle, nor had a bit in his mouth. What a dream, bareback and a hackamore was all that was required! He’s had a 3 yr old on him and an 80 year old, he always knew who was on him and whether he could push it to a scale of 11 out of 1-10. Maybe his best trait was being “drunk broke” where he would ride under you if you were ever off balance. His last gift to me was helping train 2 separate service/protection dogs. You can never ranch train any dog in good fashion if you need to divert attention to your ride. He had no jitters around dogs, was a push button ride, and I believe he fully understood the what and why of running with two dogs. We rode together nearly every day since 2012 through all sorts of weather conditions and terrain. I looked forward to the ride each day, he liked it too though maybe it was more so the carrots?

RIP my friend, I will miss you so much! Relajarse en paz mi amigo, voy a extranarte MUCHO!”

The July NATO summit in Vilnius had the feeling of a funeral, as if they had just lost a family member – Ukraine. To clear away NATO’s failure to drive Russia out of Ukraine and move NATO right up to the Russian border, its members tried to revive their spirits by mobilizing support for the next great fight – against China, which is now designated as their ultimate strategic enemy. To prepare for this showdown, NATO announced a commitment to extend their military presence all the way to the Pacific.

CRE lending standards have tightened considerably in response to the Federal Reserve’s aggressive interest rate hikes over the past sixteen months to combat inflation. Furthermore, depressed office-badge swipes and other occupancy metrics indicate a downshift in demand for office space.
